Here are a few reasons why enjoying a sporting event together makes for a great date with your significant other:

The exciting atmosphere is contagious. Whether you're seeing a home-run slugger hit one out of the park or top tennis players in the midst of a tense rally, it's extremely exhilarating to watch the world's best athletes compete against each other.

You can publicly debut your relationship. If you've been dating on the down low for a while, a sporting event is the perfect chance to declare your love in public. You may run into co-workers or friends while holding hands, giving you perhaps the first opportunity to introduce each other as boyfriend and girlfriend.

There might be a kiss cam. It may veer on the side of cheesy, but there's something undeniably sweet about seeing a surprised and sheepish couple with a camera in their faces kiss for the JumboTron; it will probably put you in the mood to steal a kiss yourself. A JumboTron engagement is a different matter, though.

It's an excuse to bond. Whether you're rooting for the same team or have a flirty rivalry, a mutual interest in sports means bonding opportunities. And if one partner is clueless, it gives the sporty one a chance to share his or her knowledge, which can be sexy.

A win gives reason to celebrate. You can't replicate the adrenaline that comes after your favorite player or home team pulls off a win. With your senses heightened, you'll be happy you have someone you love close by.

What are some first date "do's and don'ts" I should know about?

Bad dates happen. And often times, they are caused by an inappropriate comment. Believe it or not, it is actually very common for a perfectly nice person to make a mistake by saying something inappropriate on a first date. Trust us, we hear it first-hand…that’s why we are sharing some do’s and don’ts with you as our weekly advice. Use these Dating Do’s & Don’ts to help you avoid finding yourself on a downward dating spiral.

The Importance of “Appropriate”

DON’T allow your first-date discussion to turn into an argument. Stay away from controversial or potentially heated topics, like religion or politics.

DO be respectful of differences. If your date mentions a belief that you disagree with, find a way to discuss it openly without criticizing. Or, if you can’t do that, change the topic. There is nothing worse than being criticized by someone who barely even knows you. Be true to yourself, but not at the cost of being disrespectful.

Compliment with Class

DON’T over-compliment your date. Telling a person they’re attractive once is flattering. Saying it 8 times in an hour is creepy. Don’t compliment your date in a way that makes her/him feel self-conscious.“You have lovely eyes,” or “that color looks nice on you” are both respectful.“I can’t take my eyes off your amazing body” is less so.

DO say something positive or kind. An honest and simple compliment will put your date more at ease. Compliment them on something you like about their personality or interests over personal appearance. Also, show interest by telling them how that characteristic you are complimenting them on is important in what you are looking for!

Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously

DON’T put yourself down. A little self-deprecating humor is fine, but whining about your failures at work and your inability to stay on your diet are not OK.

DO have a sense of humor about yourself. You’re not perfect, and you don’t have to pretend that you are.

Exude Quiet Confidence

DON’T brag about yourself. Confidence is sexy, but a person (man OR woman) talking endlessly about their achievements comes off as arrogant, not confident.

DO project confidence. Give yourself a pep talk before the date and feel comfortable mentioning something (one thing) about yourself that you’re proud of. It really does work!
